To DonHarMusi: Sure man. Would be good to meet you and your family.
I hear where you're coming from. Wynton is classically trained - he's going to bring that element to it. But check this out. Wynton gave Yacub a lot of respect. He worked really hard to learn Yacub's rhythms so they could bring their two musics together. Yacub brought the concept, the African material, the ears to hear the connections between their musics, and a spiritual presence. Everyone who worked on the project knows how special it was, because it really challenged and it OPENED all of us. The DVD of Montreal at the end of the second tour is where you can see what it was all about.

You are cool Aminaaddy. Yacub is a great man and I am feeling what he does to the highest degree. It sounds like Wynton does not get what is happening with Yacub nor does he understand the feeling of the music I grew up with in New Orleans. Therefore to me collaboration does not capture the spirit of Yacub or New Orleans. It sounds like what ever Wynton is trying to do merged with the sound of master percussionist. I don't get what Wynton is trying to do but think he has the right to do it. What I do know is when music sounds and feels true to the essence of the places and sounds I come from. What Wynton is doing does not fit that category. Aminaaddy, You have shown that you have wonderful and rare qualities. I have the utmost respect for you and wish you all the best. I hope one day I can meet you and Yacub. Please pardon me and let us start on a better note. Peace and Love!!!!
