The Amazing Jimmi Mayes
What Jimi Hendrix was to the guitar, Little Walter was to the amplified harmonica. What Marvin Gaye was to Motown, James Brown was to funk. What Jimmi Mayes was to them all was a trusted collaborator and a musical thinker. While employed mainly as a drummer in his early years, he also distinguished himself as a composer, and singer. He was featured as a singer in the 2003 Chicago Blues Fest held at Grant Park. Ultimately Mayes became identified as a musical director; the person in charge of the big picture. His resume includes: Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Martha Reeves (Martha & the Vandellas), Frankie Lymon, Joey Dee and the Starliters, the Shirelles, Little Walter, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, Johnie Johnson, Honeyboy Edwards, Tommy Hunt, and a special thanks to Joey Dee!
