Venezuelan born cellist Aristides Rivas currently lives in Boston, acting as a free-lance cellist and teacher, holding positions at the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, principal cello at the New England Orchestra, the touring jazz band and Grammy nominated Julian Lage Group, and the emerging Voci Angelica Trio. Rivas also performs solo recitals and teaches at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, Project Step in Boston and in his private home studio in Jamaica Plain. He has appeared on prestigious stages and events of both classical and jazz, such as Carnegie Hall and Caramoore Music Festival with Paquito D'Rivera, Jordan Hall in Boston with Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero, the jazz festivals of Newport and Tanglewood in US, Montreal in Canada, Montreux in Switzerland, North Sea Jazz in Netherlands, among others, with the Julian Lage Group. Rivas holds degrees from Baylor University and the New England Conservatory of Music. His teachers include Roberto Zambrano (Venezuela), Nicolai Sarpe (Venezuela/Italy), and in the US, Gary Hardie, Natasha Brofsky, and Darrett Adkins. Rivas has also studied privately with Bernard Greenhouse and Natalia Gutman.

Aristides Rivas nació en Barinas, Venezuela. Actualmente reside en la ciudad de Boston en los Estados Unidos, y se desempeña como solista, músico de orquesta y profesor de violoncello con posiciones en la Orquesta Filarmónica de Boston, principal de la Orquesta de New England, cellista del Julian Lage Group, una banda de jazz quienes fueron nominados a los premios Grammy, y tambien el Voci Angelica Trio. Como maestro de violoncello, Rivas enseña en la Universidad de Massachusetts en Lowell, en Project Step y también en su estudio privado en Jamaica Plain.
