While it may be odd, any occasion calling for solemnity in music, the Catholic Church in English speaking countries often turn to the C of E for such music. I have been an organist for the last 35 years, and we used this hymn for our 125th anniversary back in 1999. Yes, we as Cath...

I always thought this was a stiring, lovely anthem. I know it was the anthem during the Communist regime. Now, if I could only forgive what the early Communist regime did to my family in a cellar in 1918.

It's nice to know that some Catholic parishes are still actually Catholic! In my part of North Carolina, 90% of them use pianos, keyboards and other non appropate instruments -all of which were actually banned in the Moto-Proprio of Pope St. Pius X!

Yes, I attended the Thanksgiving Service, and that one was one of the selections. It was the only non accompanied hymn. It was used to recall the Coronation in 1953, where it was used at the most sacred rite of the consecration of the Sovereign. It was again sung in 2003, at a serv...

I was about 3, and my mother said I played that, and only that, over and over to the point she thought she would lose her mind hearing it so much. She actually had dreams about ole "Alley Oop". Sadly, part of our burned, and that record was lost in the fire.

What's missing is the correct attitdue - these "gentlemen" are making a joke of this beautiful hymn - joke that is speaks very poorly of them.
@cythara1
I agree - most of the "new" music is lacking in Catholic taste! The only exceptions are the early Deiss and Murray pieces used back in the early 19060's.
