more
This Video shows you an UN-boxing of the "Red Star Ultimate Cinema Kits" components. I didn't want to bore you to tears ...So, I show you the UN-packaging and assembly... edited into stages, in a rapid speed format. At the end of this video, I give you my first impressions of the assembled Red Star Rig... while in use, during a short trial run. Note: A secondary camera was used with a lower resolution, in order to shoot footage of the Rig on me. Meanwhile, I was shooting a short clip from the Rig for you to be able to see my chosen configuration and the 'Follow Focus' in use. My prior experiences: While attending the University of California at Santa Barbara and getting my BA in Film Studies, I was able to use the same equipment that is used in major motion picture productions. Outside of college, I filmed concerts maning a Professional Steadycam System Rig, that was provided by my employer, costing over $20k alone, without the camera and accessories included. I hope this video review helps you with any lingering questions you may have regarding whether or not to purchase this Red Star DSLR Rig Kit. Also of note: The Audio voice over in this video was not captured with the Shotgun Mic. included in this kit. I chose instead to use my 'Zoom H4n Recorder' to do the voice over. A CON: Needing Some Resolve: I would like to see the adjustable arms a bit more stable, by that I mean, they tend to loosen up with movement and need to be checked often, and then re-tightened. I may resort to using some plumbers tape on the treads, or some quick tight, to see if that helps this issue. I would like to see some type of attachable strapping system in order to take some of the weight off my arms: Possibly... a set of clip rings for a way to strap a mono-pod to a belt pocket. It could help with the distribution of weight and not having a counter weight. I will probably have something made up, to help with that issue. My first impressions are favorable; and I believe that this is a great kit for any fledgling cinema film maker. Without going way out on an investment limb. Overall: I am very happy with Rig and am looking forward to the filming possibilities. I would like add: The owner of Red Star Supermall: Johnny Yan, has been terrific, and is very easy to communicate with. He really cares about his products and his businesses future... with thorough customer care and service. I will definitely be doing business with him again. My plan going forward: I will be getting Red Star's Follow Focus Whip/Crank set, the 15 inch extender rods, and I will be purchasing the Newer DV DSLR Matte Pro II Matte Box; for it's flexibility with the lens donut rings. This is so the lens can be interchanged without having to do current disassembling that is required with the current Kit's Matte Box. Red Star is offering a discount towards the upgrade. Note: The Canon 60D camera pictured in this video was purchased at the same time, but "IS NOT" part of this kit. It is only included in this video to show you an entirely assembled and functioning Rig in use. Please Note: This video was shot for the purpose of this review only, and is not intended as a sample of my level of film work.
