During the evening (I'm in the U.S.), I was puzzled by the lack of official news about Princess Diana's condition, and began to think that perhaps she had died well before it was confirmed.

By the way, portions of the BBC's coverage was simulcast by the U.S. networks.

It's interesting that in Britain, "News Report" refers to interrupting regular programming to broadcast a major breaking news story, while "News Bulletin" refers to a regularly-scheduled news broadcast.

The ABA had the three-point basket years before the NBA did.

(It wasn't until the 1979-80 season that the NBA adopted a three-point basket)

@altfactor Don Gillis didn't do Boston Celtics' playoff games in 1965 because another Boston station (WIHSA, now WSBK) carried Celtics' games during the 1964-65 season.

This appears to be a local telecast, and I think it was broadcast locally in Philadelphia, since back then, the Boston Celtics didn't allow local telecasts of home games not on national TV.

The original ESPN Classic logo was supered over the logo of whoever was televising the game (KYW? WFIL? WC...

During the 1962-63 season, the NBA didn't have a network TV deal.

I suspect this was a local telecast from either KHJ-TV (now KCAL) Los Angeles, or from Channel 5 (once known as WHDH-TV, now WCVB-TV) in Boston.

However, Wolff never worked for either station. Maybe KHJ and WHDH pooled a telecast...

I believe that during the late 1960's, NFL Films did a weekly show called "NFL Game Of The Week", where they edited highlights of a key game from the previous week into a half-hour TV show, often with the radio broadcast of one of the two teams as audio.

This song---especially this extended version of it---was a staple during 1979 on Boston-area radio station WBOS-FM, which at the time was 24/7 disco (and the first radio station in New England to do do). I listed to that station a LOT during their 1978-79 heyday as a disco format.

I believe this color kinescope exists because when "Truth or Consequences" moved into syndication in the mid 1960's, not all stations picking up the show could play back color tape, so color kinescopes were made for those stations not yet having color videotape playback capabilities.

Today, this commercial couldn't run on any "Mighty Mouse" program.

This may have been a kinescope made for delayed broadcast by an affiliate.

Was "Mighty Mouse Playhouse" actually being broadcast in color at that time??

On some stations, the five segments of "Marvel Superheroes" were split and run one per day as part of a local children's show.

ABC hyped the 1984 U.S. men's hockey team to the point millions thought they'd be a shoo-in to successfully defend the 1980 gold medal.

Most hockey experts, however, thought that the U.S. had at best an outside chance of a third-place bronze medal.

This probably still ranks as the best overall American television broadcast of an Olympics.

With the games in the U.S., and so much live coverage available, ABC's coverage of the 1984 Summer Games could have ended up as a trainwreck.
