About this user

Black of All Trades, born Shawn Wilkerson, came up in East Palo Alto, CA in the Peninsula Bay Area. His passion for video and production began in high school when he began producing short films and parody videos as part of a multimedia class at Menlo High school, which translated into writing and producing 2 short films on hi8 video, editing with iMovie. Shortly after he upgraded to miniDV on his first credit card (which he still doesn't fee like paying off), and investing in Avid software for editing.

Attending Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, he changed his major from Electrical Engineering to TV Production, with a minor in Film Studies and Multimedia Design. Learning the ins and outs of design, from photoshop and illustrator, and continuing his study with Avid and Final Cut software, he began shooting and editing with sports and TV broadcast on campus and at local high schools.

Meanwhile he found work with a Sports Marketing agency, linking him with swimming greats such as Lenny Krayzelberg, Michael Phelps, Ian Crocker and Ryan Locthe. After his short stint in shooting for a network TV pilot, he moved onto Hollywood red carpet events...which sucked. But it showed him the ups and downs of Hollywood business, meeting the stars of movies, TV and film, but numbing him to the business of production in LA.

Soon, he took on smaller but more hands-on projects, such as shooting and editing low budget music videos, events, and parody videos and short films.

His most exciting venture came when he ran across J. Anthony Brown, seasoned comedian, designer and actor, who asked him to head video production for his website and developing comedy club. Shawn took the opportunity to produce hilarious shorts and music videos for the "Murdering the Hits" line of JAB comedy, and soon began collaborating with other comedians who frequented the club. Since the launch in 2007 by his brother, Shawn has also been an influential and supporting member of Shutter Shades Inc., and the Shutter Shades crew, the official and original shades worn by the one and only Kanye West. Not because they wear the shades, but because they brought them to the world.

Now, his work includes shorts for comedian Justin hires, production for Derrick Ellis, Chaunte Wayans, up and coming talent with Malibu West Productions "tha Young Rydaz", and a new and exciting behind-the-scenes video blog and comedy show "Black of All Trades", featured at Blackofalltrades.blogspot.com, where weekly we see the exploits, thoughts and schedule of a young man on a mission to do what he loves.

He one day hopes to work with the likes of comedians Martin Lawrence, musicians from the Justus League (Little Brother, 9th Wonder, LEGACY, Khrysis...), Kev Brown, Black Milk, and upcoming actors, dancers and comedians alike.

Black of All Trades is bringing a new, fresh and innovative art to behind the scenes production...from in front of and behind the camera. On the boards and in the booth. As a producer (Black of All Trades, All Trades Production), an artist (antiThetic), and a consumer alike.
