Who is we? Are you talking about Mughals? Those Mughals who took help from Hindu Rajputs to win wars and rule? Those Mughals whose greatest emperor Akbar rejected Islam? Those Mughals who got defeated towards the end by Hindu Marathas and Sikh Khalsa?Those Mughals whose princess were taken away by Abdali and Nadir Shah?Those Mughals whom British defeated like a Kids? Those Mughals whose descendants today survive on Government of India aid?

When I began to study the Koran, the holy book of Islam, I found many unreasonable ideas. The women in the Koran were treated as slaves. They are nothing but sexual objects. Naturally I set aside the Koran and looked around me. I found religion equally oppressive in real life. They considered women as chattel slaves and treated them no better than the slaves of the ancient world. I write against the religion because if women want to live like human beings, they will have to live outside the religion and Islamic law.

Islam is in its origin an Arab religion. Everyone not an Arab who is a Muslim is a convert. Islam is not simply a matter of conscience or private belief. It makes imperial demands. A convert's world -- view alters. His Holy places are in Arab lands; his sacred language is Arabic. His idea of history alters. He rejects his own. The convert has to turn away from everything that is his. The disturbance for societies is immense, and even after a thousand years can remain unresolved.
