I don't know about anyone else, but to me this song is like an homage to Brian Eno's 'An Ending (Ascent)' - oddly enough, a song that was used in a previous film from director Danny Boyle, "28 Days Later".

Not to take anything away from the rest of the beautiful score, but 6:15 to the end - this is in my Top 5 favorite endings to a film. It's perfection; and the music completely captures the mood, the tone, and the feeling for each character.
