Although just twenty-five years of age, Alex Parsons, who began his musical career at the age of four years, has already amassed an impressive and diverse collection of musical styles, citing influences ranging from John Cage's Cheap Imitation For Solo Violin through to the idiosyncratic work of Saturo Wono. In late 2004, Alex completed his study of composition at Masters level at Goldsmiths College, University of London (where he passed his BMus Degree in Music with Honours). He also possesses Grade 8 Distinctions in violin, alto saxophone and singing, performing on British television and across the globe in countries as far-afield as South Africa and Kuwait. In addition to his classical credentials, Alex is also an established DJ and producer on the London and European dance scenes with over 10 releases on a variety of highly acclaimed record labels.
Alex's experience to date in the field of TV soundtracks incorporates a growing number of short documentaries for various film companies, all of which have been shown on the television network (Channel 4 and ITV) and in film festivals across the world. Most recently, he has completed a soundtrack to go alongside a documentary produced by Rajesh Thind for Christian Aid as well as composing the new ident for Extreme Music Television.
His compositional style is greatly influenced by his varied musical background, combining live instrumentation with electronically generated sound effects and samples roducing a unique hybrid of classical and contemporary styles. A big fan of the unregulated structure of noise music, the underlying aim of Alex's work is to find innovative and original ways to both challenge and entertain the listener in equal parts.
