What you seem to have there is polystyrene, not styrofoam. Many mistakenly call polystyrene bead board styrofoam. I heard another tip recently to keep birds from eating your tomatoes. Birds are after the moisture in the tomato. They don't really like to eat them. They said to keep a bird bath near your garden for the birds and that would solve the problem. I plan to try this this year.

@nutrientmix Seal the ends as much as you can so they can't get in... Buy a trap and relocate them when you catch them... There are mixes you can make and spread around the hoop house that will repel animals. Or you could just shoot the little invaders.... don't hit your hoop house. :-)

The soil is obviously too hot. You need to shade the sides of those pots some way. Pile up straw around them. Also, add straw or vermiculite to your soil mix. Raised beds are fine if you have very poor soil and little drainage. If your soil drains well, raised beds are not really needed. The raised beds in the hoop house are nice to work at waist level. Love the hoop house. Hope it has a good snow load. Looks like you get some snow there.

Seeds are not usually going to germinate from over two feet down, so your landscape fabric, then cardboard, paper bags, and gravel was a waste of money. Just fill it with topsoil.
