This has really demonstrated 2 things: 1. Obama does not take the country's spending/debt problem seriously. And 2. Obamabots will fanatically believe anything he says even if he literally said something completely the opposite a few months before. Incredibly, that is the kind of grasp his cult of personality has on a lot of people.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion about the man (vulgar as it may be), but remember this is a guy who stood up to his party trying to find common ground with the Democrats in order to make a deal and avoid the cliff. Everone else, on both sides of the aisle, is too busy refusing to consider any kind of compromise in order to get anything done.

I'm aware, but if you're living in a high tax state/city, which most people earning at that level are you face an additional +10-15% in taxes, plus higher cost of living than if you lived elsewhere, plus if you have kids and their expenses will take up a lot of your income too. Basically if you fall into the above categories $250k is by no means rich.

I think Obama wants taxes to go up on everyone. It's the only way to offset the spending (provided serious reforms aren't going to be made). He just wants Republicans to take the blame for it...thus he makes an "offer" that is so one-sided he knows it won't be accepted, then he can take us off the cliff, raise all taxes and can blame the other side for not accepting his offer. He doesn't have to worry too much about the economy - the more people in poverty, the more votes he can buy.

I don't think sustainable is a code word for socialism. "Sustainable" has no business being in a sentence with "Obama" - he has out spent Bush's 8 years in 4 years and his policies are causing the # of people on welfare to explode. There's nothing sustainable about Obama.
