Nadia's vault in the 1980 Olympics is actually higher and better executed than in 1976, except of course for the poor landing. Take a look at her vault in the team finals in Moscow. She scored a 9.90 for a very nice vault which put her in the final. Her best vaults were in 1979.

Shaposnikova and Comaneci were the best compulsory workers in their times. Elegant and beautifully executed. They both got a 9,95 in the Moscow Games but did not qualify for the finals.

I agree with (at least) five judges who scored it that way. This is a gymnastics' competition, not a ballet. How old was Olessia at that time? 15? For my taste, some parts are too slow, and the landing on the second pass was also not a perfect 10.

I agree with the judges. I would also have given a 10 in spite of a step on landing.
Maybe she should have done a double twist at the end instead of a triple....but for the courage and the difficulty, I prefer a triple with a small step than a perfect double.

The judges had two options : 9,90 or 10. (there was no 9.95 at that time). So they opted for 10 which was closer to what Daniela did.
In some other times 9.95 would be just. Anyhow, she deserved the gold.

Dumitirita was a reigning world champion on vault in 1979, but in the Moscow Games she did not qualify for the final.

One of the 4 judges was a Russian who gave her a 10 in spite of the big wobble. That is why she got an average 9.95.
Natalia had a nice personality, her exercises were original and ahead of her time but this routine could definately not get a 10 by 2 judges (out of 4).

Nadia got a 9,95 for this compulsory exercise. She fell in the team optionals (9.50) where she had 2 releases. She got a 10 in the all around. No UB final because of the fall. Gnauck took the gold (9.95 in the compulsory, 10 in the TO and 9.90 in the final).

This routine scored a 9.95, not enough for the medal. Silivas and Bontas had more difficult routine but Olesia got a perfect 10 in the compulsories (that is why she qualified in the EF over Laschenova). Does anyone have that video ?

I would put a Melita Ruhn's perfect 10 vault or a Davydova's 9.95 vault from the Moscow Olympics instead of Shaposhnikova's. But I guess the author personally prefered Natalia Shaposhnikova as a person not ...

Very nice routine, but the triple twist was actually a 2,75 twist...Gnauck did a triple twist that same year in the Worlds in F.Worth.
