Nadia scored a 9.95. The judges changed their decision in the end. They said somebody wrote it down wrongly...... Calculating and scheming all the way....

I can't see a major deduction, either.... In the team finals, she scored a 9.75.

Nadia's vault in the 1980 Olympics is actually higher and better executed than in 1976, except of course for the poor landing. Take a look at her vault in the team finals in Moscow. She scored a 9.90 for a very nice vault which put her in the final. Her best vaults were in 1979.

Shaposnikova and Comaneci were the best compulsory workers in their times. Elegant and beautifully executed. They both got a 9,95 in the Moscow Games but did not qualify for the finals.

One of the most original and difficult vault (1)I have seen lately. Pity for the step on the landing. Otherwise the score would be 17. Has anyone ever scored over 17 ???

I agree with (at least) five judges who scored it that way. This is a gymnastics' competition, not a ballet. How old was Olessia at that time? 15? For my taste, some parts are too slow, and the landing on the second pass was also not a perfect 10.

I agree with the judges. I would also have given a 10 in spite of a step on landing.

Maybe she should have done a double twist at the end instead of a triple....but for the courage and the difficulty, I prefer a triple with a small step than a perfect double.

The best vault in the AA, 9.987, but she did not compete in the EF

The judges had two options : 9,90 or 10. (there was no 9.95 at that time). So they opted for 10 which was closer to what Daniela did.

In some other times 9.95 would be just. Anyhow, she deserved the gold.

Melita was 15 years old in the Moscow Games. Although injured,she took 2 bronze medals (Nadia fell both on vault and UB). After these Games, she disappeared from the international scene. Rodica Dunca and Emilia Eberle competed still in the Worlds in the next year.

9.80 was in the team optional, for the same vault.

9.90. but she gave up the floor final.

Leading after the compulsories, she did not qualifie for the AA final due to the falls on UB and BB. Such a shame...Bicherova was smarter, playing safe with easier routines...

Mostepanovafan obviously loves russian gymnastics. Just like many Russians he/she can not forget/forgive Nadia to steal the show in Montreal Olympics beating Nelli Kim and the whole russian team. To put Nelli Kim on the list and not Nadia just tells you how much he/she knows about gymnstics.

One of the 4 judges was a Russian who gave her a 10 in spite of the big wobble. That is why she got an average 9.95.

Natalia had a nice personality, her exercises were original and ahead of her time but this routine could definately not get a 10 by 2 judges (out of 4).

Rodica Dunca did a perfect jump on vault in the warm up. Pity she made a little step forward in the competition and earned "only" a 9.90...

Nadia got a 9,95 for this compulsory exercise. She fell in the team optionals (9.50) where she had 2 releases. She got a 10 in the all around. No UB final because of the fall. Gnauck took the gold (9.95 in the compulsory, 10 in the TO and 9.90 in the final).

This routine scored a 9.95, not enough for the medal. Silivas and Bontas had more difficult routine but Olesia got a perfect 10 in the compulsories (that is why she qualified in the EF over Laschenova). Does anyone have that video ?

In 1979 in the Balkans'championships in Ljubljana, she scored a 10 for the same vault in the EF.

A personal choice, indeed. I guess the author wanted to represent each year of the 1980s.

I would put a Melita Ruhn's perfect 10 vault or a Davydova's 9.95 vault from the Moscow Olympics instead of Shaposhnikova's. But I guess the author personally prefered Natalia Shaposhnikova as a person not ...

Is that Dumitrita Turner at the very beginning ??? Who are the second and third vaulter ?

I also agree that Szabo should have taken the bronze. Don't forget that the head judge was a notorious Ellen Berger from DDR.

Klotz had an impressive floor routine in the team optionals, though.

Vodencharova was the best on that day. Then Silivas, then Dudeva.

I would give Vodencharova a 9.975, Silivas and Dudeva a 9.950. Boginskaya 9.925.

@gymnasticsloverxoxo NO, not saying that she did not deserve to win, but just saying that apart from the vault in the AA, everything else is nothing special and avarage. Her total score was very low 78.425 (avarage 9.80).

With Gnauck injured, the gold medal , after all, had to be given to someb...

Pity that the Russian team prefered Olga in the final and not Natalia Ilienko who also scored a 9.90 for a very difficult and original exercise. Take a look on the you tube....
