I see this as kind of an updated version of bands like Coldplay. Same kind of emphasis on bright tones and high register riffs, yet with more emphasis on dance beats and a tighter sound.

What I like about this music is that there is nothing flashy about it that screams for your attention. It's more about the overall sound that they're trying to create that has a very dark and dreary feel. Having said that, I still think the song is really catchy.

This song is an example of a period around 2007 when minimalist dance music was popular (along with songs like Low and Sexyback). This song shows how you don't need a heavy bass to make a song danceable. The bass accentuates the song rather than drives it.

This song actually has a very well written chorus. I like the way that he takes the same melody and repeats it through each new chord. He uses harmony to represent progression of thought while maintaining the same melodic motif, and it is very effective.
