The 2012 AHECTA Student Production Awards (SPAs) -- Information and Guidelines

Dates and Deadlines:
Contest Commences: January 18, 2012, 12:01 AM EST
Deadline for Submissions: April 4, 2012, 11:59 PM EST

Judging: April 12 -- May 6, 2012
Notification to winners and/or honorable mentions: May 23-25, 2012
Winners' response window: May 26-June 2, 2012
Official announcement of winners: AHECTA Conference, San Antonio, TX, June 23, 2012

Who Can Enter:
This video production contest is open to all students (legal residents of the 50 United States, plus the District of Columbia) currently enrolled in a community college, college or university.
Students can submit productions produced for course work, student television stations, classes or their own original productions.

Categories and Guidelines
The 2012 SPA Categories are:

- Best News Feature or Sports Feature - $500 Prize
- Best Original Short Form Digital Story (including Film or Animated Short)
or Music Video - $500 Prize
- Best Lifestyle Show, Documentary, or Public Service Announcement - $500 Prize
- AHECTA Best of Show - $1000 Prize

Each submission must be a complete, self-contained story or episode.
Minimum submission length is 30 seconds; maximum length is 8 minutes.
If your submission in its original form is longer than 8 minutes (such as a half-hour episode of a series), you must edit your submission to fit the guidelines listed above. "Highlight" episodes will be accepted under these conditions.
The AHECTA SPA judges reserve the right to reject any submission that does not adhere to these guidelines.

How to Submit:
1) Register for the Contest with a 2012 SPA Participant Release Form, downloadable here:

Email the completed form to spa@ahecta.org
Please note: Without this form, we cannot process your submission!

2) Visit the AHECTA YouTube channel at
http://www.youtube.com/ahecta

3) Upload your submission (no longer than 8 minutes) as a Video Response to the "2012 AHECTA Student Production Awards" video (the main video on our YouTube channel) (Available January 18, 2012 -- April 4, 2012)

How are Winners Selected and Notified?
Winning entries will be selected based on:
Creativity
Technical quality
Content
Overall effectiveness of delivery
* Submissions must be a complete, self-contained story or episode.

The 2012 AHECTA Student Production Award judges reserve the right to reject any video that contains content that does not meet the entry requirements or judging criteria or is deemed inappropriate for the purposes of this contest.

Winners will be notified May 23-25, 2012. Winners must confirm acceptance of their prize by June 2, 2012.

AHECTA Best of Show
* $1,000 check made payable to Entrant
* Award plaque inscribed with the name of the Entrant(s), to be held by primary Entrant institution


REGARDING GROUP ENTRIES:
Group entries will be accepted. Each group should elect one representative (a Primary Director) to submit their video to the YouTube site, and to submit the 2012 Participant Release Form.
Duplicate video entries will not be accepted.

If a group entry is selected as a winner, the monetary prize award will be awarded in full to the Primary Director.
