Since 1971, AFC has focused on the most vulnerable and at-risk students in the NYC public schools: children with disabilities, immigrant students and English Language Learners, children who are homeless, and youth who are in foster care or are court-involved. We run the only independent, citywide education helpline, and provide one-on-one legal representation and advocacy to help children from low-income families get the educational support and services they need to be successful in school. In addition, we fight for systemic change that will benefit all students through our policy work and when necessary, federal litigation.
