An addiction is prolonged use of a drug without need. If I take ritalin for ADHD it doesn't mean I'm addicted. I need to use it to focus. If I didn't have ADHD and was using it with no medical reason to that would be an addiction.

@istringe. Thanks for the information. This is all very useful for when I go to college for a degree in special ed. I know how you feel because my cousin is autistic. My cousin is the main reason I want to teach special ed.
