CONTEST OPEN TILL JANUARY 15, 2010.

Welcome to Action for Women, the YouTube channel for the film competition for aspiring directors on Violence against Women.

Every day, many women around the world are victims of various types of violence, ranging from sexual abuse to mobbing, from domestic violence to stalking to socio-cultural discrimination. Most of this violence is never reported due to shame or fear but it is a social evil.

The Coucil of Europe and the Italian Chamber of Deputies are involved in an awareness campaign about this problem, a problem that knows no geographic border and leaves no socio-cultural group untouched. The Action for Women competition is part of this campaign.

If you are an aspiring director, participate in this competition by uploading your short on violence and discrimination against women: then show off your artistic abilities to the international film leaders and get started on your new career! A jury of international directors (Jaco Van Dormael, Giuseppe Tornatore, Francesca Comencini, Roberta Torre, Renata Litvinova) will judge the entries and select the finalists. The public will vote for a winner on YouTube!.

The winning short film will be awarded with a special screening at the 67th Venice International Film Festival 2010.

The contest starts at September 15th 2009 and it is open to residents of ITALY, GREAT BRITAIN, FRANCE, SPAIN, GERMANY, RUSSIA, POLAND, THE NETHERLANDS, SWEDEN, IRELAND AND THE CZECH REPUBLIC.

Under the auspices of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe. Ms Maud de Boer-Buquicchio

People commenting that this channel should state it's recognition of violence against men are confused. As it says in the description box, this channel is concerned not only with domestic violence against women but other violence perpetrated against women as a subjugated group. Domestic violence against men who can afford to leave is not the same as violence against women who cannot. Sexual violence is predominantly perpetrated against women and this fact, along with low conviction rates for rape, is indicative of women's social status as sexually oppressed by men.

I think that Nora should win. It is absolutely beautiful.
And I agree with he people who say that violence and abuse of men should be talk about. Not that woman aren't important, but people never talk about violence at men.

Iliana

We remind all users that the only valid votes to choose the winners are the ones expressed on the Thumb Up (green) icon in the Vote Tab of this channel, as explained in the contest rules. Good Luck to the Finalists!

From my point of view, men are suffering from violence more than women. I read a case study saying that boys are the victims of 75% of incidents of bullying, then there are all the other violent crimes and knife attacks on the news that are not happening to women. Secondly, socio-cultural discrimination is not a type of violence. You may say it is, but really, you know it isn't.

Hopefully this will be ongoing, but, if there is another competition in the future, and a new channel (or extention of this one) can it be called "ACTION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE" then it will be fairer and include ALL genders who have unfortunately experienced this crime.
