This is a great example of how a variable pitch whistle can sound. It's actually an "industrial strength" version of a child's slide whistle. Companies such as Lunkenheimer and Crane once made them. This type of whistle is quite rare today.

I knew of Herb Head as a calliopist on the Tangley Calliophone air calliope through my years in the American Theatre Organ Society. This video shows a side of him I didn't know about; Herb was also a master at miniaturization!
