I have seen massively repeated models doing this before. That's why i'm not terribly impressed with the scope of the "island" they made. They did it with much nicer models and better planning tho, i agree.

Now the guy behind the Atomontage Engine. His examples were NOT repeated...

@shogg ohh yea i forgot to mention, the vehicle is polygon based. His engine merges the best of both worlds. It's actually quite amazing and a stroke of genius. On his site he describes this scene and here is a quote: "The video also features an old-style polygon-mesh based model of a truck."

#1 just cause it's all-wheel drive, doesn't mean it can go off road, this is especially true for sand/mud.
