Hi Alan, Um... sorry to come out of the blue and ask you a science question from nowhere but I'm working on a Sci Fi with my friend and I like to make things realistic and since this is a Science Fiction there are space battles. I figured we would have to adobt a whole new way of fighting due to the fact that things dont just combust in a vacume (Unless you hit a ship with oxygen in it, then it would explode and burn... for awhile) so I came to the thought of guass and rail guns... sadly I read the nitty gritty of both weapons and physics and I really want to know which of these two future weapons are better suited for an infantry weapon and which one is best suited for being docked a ship with a tremendous power supply and some means of coolant we do not know yet. I know we need super conductors to make both of these weapons work properly but which one is more better via power of the projectile vs. energy consumption vs heat generation? Just hoping you might know...
