Regarding the comments that Clint Walker should have become Superman back in the 1950s, I would have to agree. I don't understand why he wasn't cast in the part after George Reeves. Also, William Conrad could have played Perry White, with David Nelson as Jimmy Olson.

These were, despite comical appearances of these tests, serious designs for space suits. The advantage of these designs is that they were full-pressure suits, up to 14 psi, thereby cutting down the time needed to pre-breathe pure oxygen.

You may notice that the story told in this movie bears some resemblance to C. S. Lewis's "That Hideous Strength", warning Man not to meddle in things Man was not meant to know.

I play this whenever I feel frustrated by my computer. Sometimes, I think of the computer as the enemy. Wade into it! Whenever your computer gives you issues, you always have the option of reducing it to a bubblin' box of goo! (LOL)

I hope this comment does not offend anyone; however, I couldn't help notice that Klaatu's concern mirrored that of C. S. Lewis. In his writings, Lewis spoke of the aggressive, sinful nature of Man, and of what could be if Man were to extend his aggression to other planets.

I don't know if this means anything, but one of the people Mike Wallace interviews bears a strong resemblance to Hitler. What I think is important: if you read C. S. Lewis's "That Hideous Strength", you'll find an organization resembling Scientology.

At 1:14, the "pod being" speaking to our hero does bear some resemblance to a young L. Ron Hubbard (I think).

This movie clearly influenced Rod Serling's Twilight Zone. As for any social or political content, it's only in science fiction or fantasy that these issues can be best addressed. You've got to have some imagination, after all.

This song does have a hint of the old James Bond 007 theme music. I only wish it had the movie's title worked into it; then, it would be perfect.

Very interesting video. I remember the Galloping Gourmet from my childhood; my mother would watch this for the recipes. Unfortunately, the audio seems to be out of synch. (I know I spelled it right!) Oh, well...

This, of course, is a version of the "SFM Holiday Network" theme. I remember this theme whenever a movie like White Christmas would come on. But then, I'm a baby boomer.
