So I'll guess maybe 150 times under the piano to get this type of reproduction from a Duo-Art. They're great when they're done right but it's so hard to get them to do it. This is really VERY good. Now if you'll just tune the thing.

An Argentine friend gave me a tape of her tango CD 20 years ago. I was never able to locate the CD. The most remarkable playing. If you have any leads I will gladly follow them. I miss her full and total commitment. Her playing of the 'old' tango style is unmatched also.

All is dependnt on cuetip distance from the cueball while in the set position. For precision it should be very close indeed. It means that there need not be any elbow drop 'cuz if you do you'll make contact higher than you had intended. Plus any excess motion means more things can go wrong.

@alterman156 Yes, it's true. I believe it's because they really tried and believed in what they were doing. There is real immediacy and presence in many of these rolls. The reproducing systems were unbelievably refined. Imagine; 100 year old technology performing so incredibly well.

@pianmn199 Thanks for your reply. The question really should have been what year was this roll recorded? Is it an A coded rollfrom before 1928 or is it a later recording with A and B coding?

He gets it to buzzz.....just like bees. He captures that sound the only way possible; play the notes as fast as a bee moves it's wings. Pure genius in all aspects.

You can worry about wrong notes or you can worry about the music. For me if the music is there and the musician is abviously totally immersed then no number of wrong notes can bother me.

Both Liszt and Bolet at the very height of their mastery. Too me, under the proper hands, Tannhauser and The liebestodt transcriptions are Liszts very best piano writing.

Such an underrated and lovely piece and you took what you could do with it and made music out of it too. bravo

It's too accessible a lollypop to be anything but distrusted by todays players. I'm not crazy about this performance however.

BADASS indeed! listen to his Duo-Art roll of Lisazt/wagner tannhausser. Super roll and one of the most coherant magestic performanes I ever heard.

The Ampico system can reproduce better than this.

imagine spending all that time perfecting your game only, in the end to have the game for the most part reduced to being played on the kiddie tables. These 7' tables oughtta be against the fuckin' law.

@oldbear52 that's the roll drive on the right and the stuff on the left are pneumatics for keeping the roll centered on the tracker bare and the hoses are for various things like pedaling and also the soft pedal I think. If you pick your rolls carefully and have the Duo-Art playing as it should it is a very fine reproducing system. Nice post.
