His jersey slur works on Born to Run but, man, does it get in the way of the lyrics on this song. Most of the time I prefer the original style of a song, occasionally a remake outshines the lead. For myself, i clearly understand why Mr. Springsteens' version never charted and Mr. Manns' did.
