What a sad thing to see the world decay and to ' profit' from it. Even though technically you're not contributing to the decay, you're not working against it either. At least he knows it and talks about it, referring to speculation rather than investment.

Imho Joe is being too humble saying he learned not to care about material things because he was rich. People with money don't necessarily learn this. It has nothing to do with wither or not you have money.
