About this user
Due to rapid development in China, most of the non-profit organizations in the U.S look only towards the bigger and better known cities of China to fundraise and donate money. Most people overlook the areas that are neither tourist destinations nor industrial centers. Hubei Province is a prime example of one of these areas.
The out skirts of Hubei are undeveloped and the schools are extremely under-funded. Hundreds of children, determined to get the education they've always dreamed of, walk miles a day to get to a school that can barely afford to replace a cracked blackboard, let alone computers, or even textbooks. These children cannot possibly receive that education unless their schools have adequate funding. That is where we come in.
Throughout the year, A Thousand Wings will be hosting a number of fundraising events either independently or in collaboration with other non-profit organizations. All the money that we raise will go directly to schools in rural Hubei, and news from those schools will constantly be coming in and updating us on what they have done with the money we donated.
However, A Thousand Wings is more than just a fundraising organization. Each summer, we will be sending a handful of Chinese American/American students to one or more schools in Hubei Province that we have chosen to donate money to. There, our students will actively participate in school activities. In addition to interacting with the school children, we will also be discussing with the schools officials as to how to improve the school using the money we raise.
Since our main goal is to achieve success in fundraising, as more and more students go back to Hubei every year, more and more will be coming back with stories to tell from their experiences. The people who donate money will donate for a cause that they really understand as oppose to a cause they briefly viewed on a slide show or in a brochure. All of the students that have gone with us to China, and all the people here that have donated upon hearing of their experiences, will know how much of a difference we actually made.
