Z tv (Zyber TeleVision) is a cable television network originally devoted to music videos, especially popular hip-hop music. The network got its start in 1981 in Stockholm in Sweden, with investments from companies like Warner Communications and American Express, and became available in most of the Sweden in the mid-1980s. The first music video shown on Ztv was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles. The network was acquired by Viacom, Inc., in 1985, becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary. Ztv became a leading promoter of new rock music and musicians, showing music videos, promoting special rock concerts, and presenting news and documentaries about bands and performers.
