Zeljko Joksimovic is considered one of the greatest and best selling artists in the countries of former Yugoslavia. His songs lyrically are signed by important Serbian songwriters and poets. He is considered one of the most brilliant, unique and captivating voices of Serbia, whose songs remain for a long time on the top of the charts.
Born on April 20th 1972 in Belgrade, Zeljko started playing music at the age of five years old. He completed the Music Art Academy of Belgrade and his first international success came at the age of only 12 years old when he won the title of the best accordeon player in Europe at an International contest in Paris. He started his professional carreer in the mid nineties enjoying several national and international awards.
The turning point in his career is considered to be Zeljkos winning the national contest for Serbia and Montenegros representative on Eurosong 2004 as a singer-composer- arranger with his song Lane moje, representing Serbia and Montenegro and winning the 2nd place on the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul and THE MACEL BEZENCON Award, made him way to the top of the European music scene and established him as one of the very few artists who brought a new special musical quality. It is noted that Zeljko is the artist who changed the Eurovision song contest, showing that there is another music path beyond the established one.
Zeljkos multifaceted music talent shows through his ability to compose music for theatre plays, movies, TV serials, as well as music for the National Serbian Television documentary dedicated to the great Serbian scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla.
In addition Zeljkos international presence continues to grow through a variety of international collaborations with singers and performers from Europe and elsewhere. Zeljko Joksimovic has extensively toured Europe, but also sang in Australia & the USA. In the last 6 years Zeljko has performed in front of a diverse number of audiences in several countries. His live appearances abroad always have a huge success, most of them are soldout many days before and they are also praised by the critics and audiences all around the world.
His latest album which was released at the beginning of November 2009 sold almost 300.000 copies in less than a week.
Zeljko is one of the few artists internationally that can play more than 14 musical instruments and BBC has characterized him as one of the best musicians of the Balkans.
