Tonight Bulk & Skull's curiosities bring them to new realms of understanding about each other. They've always been Bulk & Skull; it's an identity they're comfortable with. So comfortable in fact, that at first they don't mind having swapped bodies, but they've never been each other. It's never been "Skull & Bulk" in a sense. I'm not talking about billing of course because simple vernacular rhythm opts for "Bulk & Skull" (it's close though). Bulk & Skull get the opportunity to see each other even more up close & personal than they've ever been able to before, & they can see who the other one really is from a deeper level. It's from this epiphany that they decide it's best to return back to normal, appreciating themselves for who they are on a more independant level. And independance is also an important factor in any relationship, especially friendship. They realize that such a fickle science as neurology might not allow them to simply switch back with another turn in the machine & so must ask its creator for guidance. The Power Rangers are hesitant but ultimately delighted to see Bulk & Skull beg, because it encourages the submission of the latter two. This is a common phenomenon in our society, when others constantly try to make us squirm for their own attempt at dominance, be it for a job, school, club, etc.
In the first Green Ranger episode, we can recall Skull's immortal Question Mark Hat. It's a hat I myself thought I could use constantly. Too bad society unreasonably sees hats as a notorious method for exerting its ill-gotten authority over us. Bulk & Skull are frightened by the random violent, psychopathic episode that Tommy greets them with. Realizing they are up against a raving lunatic who spazzes out with the slightest provocation they flee.
Oh boy. This First Green Ranger episode has the funniest scenes in Power Rangers history. The thin veil of an Americanized Japanese show ("Don't let them know it exists!" is the credo of American companies) is stretched & we see the most spastic scenes where the Green Ranger just flipping boards the Megazord thingy, bursts in ("You're not allowed in here, even if you come and get him."), & kicks them out. Then he continues to spaz out & attack them mano-a-mano, spazzing out yet again when the Red Ranger challenges him, only to deliver an IMMEDIATE explodey-thingy to Red's chest ("OW! DAMNIT!"). And of course there's the Green Ranger's trademark "Batch Move" where he attacks with his flying crotch. I never was a regular watcher of this show but it definitely had its fine moments.
In the scene where Tommy (complete with Ren Fest ponytail) tosses Bulk & Skull in a dumpster, we're given yet another facet of the duo's philosophy. Bulk & Skull know this guy flips out, and still they pursue him. Bulk & Skull are not quitters. And they're also not tending towards basing relationships solely on first impressions which is an important virtue. They are also smart enough not to challenge a bizarre supernatural entity that can shoot green lightning at them. I just want to point out the scene where Bulk & Skull tell Kimberly that "Missing persons are our specialty." because you can easily notice Skull's spiked collar. I've always wanted one of those, but I don't know when or where I'd wear it (or where to get one).
