I agree about Czechoslovakia dropping off, but it rules on the vinyl version. Album in general slays.

If you dig the solos on this Heavy Rocks, I'd go and check out Rainbow, their collaboration with Michio Kurihara from Ghost who did some of the solos on HR2 and Smile.

I listen to so much more than metal (prog, indie, hardcore, shoegaze, electronica, punk, hip-hop, ambient, noise, folk, jazz, classical, blues, soul, dubstep, post-rock). But if you want some metal that's melodic and also very good, check out In Flames' early...

They're both pretty average tbqh. Why not just listen to great prog or great metal, not bands that do both mediocre?

They'll probably never top Ashes. Marrow of the Spirit is pretty amazing though. Not sure how you can compare this to Wolves in the Throne Room, but eh, to each his own. This probably is their most "black metal" release but it still barely falls into the genre.
