jc2 - saying the urge to believe in an afterlife is derived from fear of death is hardly original --- i might as well chuck in the old cliche and point out the obvious - how this urge degrades life and stops you from living it completely via the wish for something more

@human We are all slaves to mortality, something that has never sat well with me. This is why I've studied religion and wanted to know a God that can free me of this inevitability. Jesus Christ, from my perspective is the most convincing God. Buddhism is relying on yourself to find Nirvana which I have learnt through my own life and looking at others that we are not in control of our fate, particularly when you enter the mystery of the afterlife. A lot of new age beliefs also speak of finding Godhood but all these believers end up doing is dying and not being heard from again. It isn't a gamble it is the only answer in my opinion. The connection between sin and disease resulting ultimately in death is completely logical. I do not believe that physical death is the end simply because I can't comprehend it. You could be dead for millions of years but if a point comes were you are conscious again, it would feel like no time had passed whatsoever.
