To have your work break out from the pack, I suggest geting the MS Kinect to do motion capture video. The vast majority of mmd usa users only edit motions at best. There is a huge lack of origional material. Kinect mo cap will cut hundreds of hours off antimation detail work, allowing you to consentrate on 'dramatic moments' and facial expressions.

I actually make the hair multiple colors in Meta because every color is a new layer and I use the layers to rig by ^_^ (if you look at the Hidden Videos on my site you will see how I did this with Momoko's bangs)
