Saint Yared (Ge'ez: ቅዱስ ያሬድ) (505AD - 571AD) was a legendary Ethiopian musician who composed the sacred music tradition of the Ethiopian Tewahdo Orthodox Church and Ethiopia's system of musical notation. He created the Zema (Ethiopia's chant tradition), particularly the chants of the Ethiopian Orthodox, which are still performed today. He was canonized as a saint with a feast day of 11 Genbot (May 19).

This YouTube page is inspired both by Saint Yared and the beauty of Ethiopian contemporary music, classical American jazz, and a relatively recent genre, Ethio-Jazz. A student of the tenor saxophone, I frequently listen to the music of John Coltrane (Tenor, Soprano saxophones), Mulatu Astatke (Arranger), Tommy T (bass), Moges Habte (Tenor), Tewodros Mitiku (Alto), Jorga Mesfin and Wudasse Band (Tenor), Getachew Mekuria (Tenor), Feleke Mamo (Tenor), Budos Band, Either Orchestra, Imperial Tiger Orchestra, Branford Marsalis (Tenor, Soprano), Stan Getz (Tenor), Sonny Rollins (Tenor), Joshua Redman (Tenor), Cannonball Adderly (Alto), Matthew Stone (Tenor, Soprano, Alto), Jeff Decker, John D'earth, Danny Mekonnen (Debo Band), ARC Collective, Zeddicus, Tilahun Gessesse, Mahmoud Ahmed, and Teddy Afro.
