A janissary was a soldier in the Ottoman empire, who was taken from Greece, and made into the most refined, educated and efficient warrior alive. To be a janissary then, one must be the best of the best. After all, it was these members of an elite military unit of the Turkish army organized in the 14th century and abolished in 1826 after it revolted against the Sultan.

Yani, Rhodes indeed deserves a video. I would like one about Syracuse too, as I said, and one about Philopoemen animated by your poetic flair. Cheers

why do u say that a yanisary was taken exclusively from greece?there were many albanians who became yanisarys!!they took em from theyre familys in an age like 6-10 and trained them in ottoman schools to make them the ellite warriors of the army!

It's funny how the fustanella is only worn in areas where Greek culture had its influence, but the farther we go, the more we see Albanians in their natural circus pants
eroshi (1 week ago)
Yani the lying bastard, those are not horseriding pants but tirqe made out of wool and worn primarily in northern albania. Byron is in the albnian dress in your picture, and the fustanella is albanian dress through and through.

Elikaron minorileshi, para se ta hapesh gojen edukoje veten se edhe kosovaret dhe malesoret kane veshur dhe veshin fustanella, por jo aq shume sa jugu i shqiperise. Ik shiko foto nga vitet 1900 te shkodraneve me fustanella. Jevgjit e anatolise fustanellen e kopjuan nga arvanitasit.

@granitus
You kosovaret dont have fustanella in your traditional costumes.
