What is Islam? If a non-Muslim believes that Islam is a merciless religion with something to do with terrorism; a religion which does not give rights to women; a religion which contradicts science; in his limited sense that non-Muslim is correct to reject such Islam. The problem is that he or she has a wrong picture of Islam. Even I reject such a false picture of Islam, but at the same time, it becomes my duty as a Muslim to present the correct picture of Islam to that non-Muslim i.e. Islam is a merciful religion, it gives equal rights to the women, it is not incompatible with logic, reason and science; if I present the correct facts about Islam, that non-Muslim may InshAllah (God willing) accept Islam. So it is the duty of us Muslims to tell the true message of Islam to the non-Muslims and clear any misconception which they have about Islam.

Now the real answer to the question what is Islam is this: Islam means "peace acquired by submitting your will to God" and Muslim means "one who does Islam and he or she acquires peace by submitting his or her will to God". Islam was the purpose of all the prophets of God including, Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and the last prophet of God, Muhammad. And since all the prophets submitted them selves to God because they followed the orders of God, they were all Muslims who followed the truth and taught people the truth. So Islam is not a new religion brought by Muhammad, 1400 years ago. It is there since the beginning of creation. Because even the universe made by God is working in a system as he wants it to. In other words it could be also said that the universe is submitting to God which is Islam. This might sound funny to some people but it is true.

Those who believe that the Quran is not the verbatim word of God as it claims and it was just a book forged by Muhammad than there is the Quran challenge for them which they must pass if they are true. They are many verses in the Quran which speak about it. Here is one:

[10:38] Or do they say, "He forged it"? say: "Bring then a Sura like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!"

If a scripture claims to be the word of God than that scripture should have no contradictions in it. Or otherwise if it does have than it cant be from God because God doesn't make mistakes. So therefore since the Quran claims to be the verbatim word of God it doesn't have any contradictions in it. And this fact is also mentioned in the following verse of the Quran:

[4:82] "...and if it were from any other than Allah, they would have found in it many a contradictions"

Even though so many non-Muslims have so many misconceptions about Islam which makes Islam the world's most misunderstood religion. And because of Terrorism in the name of so called Islam and all the false propaganda spread about Islam through the mainstream media, Islam appears to be very malign to most people. But despite of that it's an amazing fact that Islam is the world's fastest growing religion!

According to the readers digest from the year 1935-1985 in a survey of 50 years they took out the statistics of the increase of world religions and on no.1 it was Islam which increased by 237% while on no.2 it was Christianity which increased by 47% even though it is the largest religion of the world.

People claim that Islam is the world's fastest growing religion because of birth and thus Muslims have a lot of Children. However that is not true. And it's also a fact that there are more people in non-Muslim countries than they are in Muslim countries. Good examples would be India and China. The population of India is almost 1.2 billion and the population of China is almost 1.5 billion. 87% of the population of India which is more than a billion is non-Muslim and almost whole population of china is non-Muslim.

So Islam is not fastest growing from birth but is from conversions. According to current statistics each year more than 45000 people from all over world accept Islam and 20000 from U.S.A alone and Islam grows by 2.9% each year. According to projected statistics by 2025, Islam will be the world's largest religion. That is 15 years later from the present. There are many more statistics taken place on this topic.

Currently about 25% of the total population of the world is Muslim and on top of that it's the world's fastest growing religion by conversions? This is something to think about. If Islam is such a bad religion as many non-Muslims claim because of the misconceptions which they have about it than why does ¼ of the world population believe it to be true and why are so many people converting to Islam?
