Yes, he uses legato. Exploring alternate picking now and was thinking about it but either way is a bit too fast.

Just try starting from the second strings, and it is a bit easier on the shorter bar distance.

Either with legato on 2,3,4 or alternate on 2,3 strings, I almost get to speed...
