No, it's just a standard P/J bass. The "pickup" behind the regular Jazz pup is a MIDI pup that was disabled long ago. Someday I'll pull it out, was like that when I bought it. :)

Not sure how to answer that one. Dead strings are dead strings. It can "liven up" whatever source is fed into it, but it's not replacement for a fresh set of strings...
*Boiling your strings in water for 5-10 min then cleaning them can make them sound new for a while though. No joke.

They're totally different pedals. They really are and its not just a subtle big muff connoisseur thing. If you a/b the two pedals, they are voiced totally different.
Different clipping, tone knob, feel, sound all totally different.
