This year, our dedicated grant review team connected and engaged with 24 organization applicants from across the state.
On behalf of the board and staff of the Women's Fund of Rhode Island I am pleased to introduce the following grant recipients:
George Wiley Center has been awarded an $8,500 grant to support the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. With this campaign, George Wiley Center will work to advocate on behalf of women facing utility shut offs and engage in the broader public policy. Girls Rock! Rhode Island received an $8,000 grant to support its capacity building and development. Girls Rock is an organization that works toward helping girls and women empower themselves through the development of musical skills in order to foster self-esteem, self- confidence, and self-efficacy. Olneyville Neighborhood Association received a $6,500 to address domestic violence and build the knowledge and capacity of ONA's primarily undocumented and Latino community. Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (also known as SAGE) received an $8,500 grant to support Transforming Health Care for Lesbian Elders, a project that will educate and empower Lesbian Elders to seek quality health care, and educate health care professionals and organizations to deliver quality care to this population. Senior Agenda Coalition received an $8,000 grant to conduct community conversation, develop policy recommendations, and engage the community of women 65 and older to become policy advocates, and advance policies that will support the well-being of older women in Rhode Island. Socio-Economic Development Center for Southeast Asians received an $8,500 grant to support the Southeast Asians Restoring Community Hope project. The funding will be used to engage and support Southeast Asian women civically, develop a policy agenda to advocate for issues that disproportionately affect these women and girls, and benefit the entire Southeast Asian community in Rhode Island. With your support we were able to distribute $48,000 to improve the lives of women and girls in our state.
On behalf of the Women's Fund of Rhode Island board and staff we are proud of these six organizations and the commitment they have made to sustain the development of initiatives that will advance leadership and policy advocacy for women, girls and their families in Rhode Island.
It is my pleasure to introduce Senator Sheldon Whitehouse who will present our new grantees with certifications. Thank you.

Imagine
Who could have imagined 10 years ago how strong and vibrant the Women's Fund would be today? The impact of our research, policy advocacy and grant programs transform the lives of individual women and girls who go from victim to survivor to advocating for change in the family court system—
a shy teen who knows she has something to contribute but doesn't know how to advance herself, to leading and advocating for education reform in her school district who is comfortable now giving interviews to the press —
A working single mother who faces utility shutoffs, who learns her rights to protect herself and her family and ways to financially and responsibly avoid shutoff, who advocates successfully for herself and then coaches other women to advocate for themselves—who now is a leader for antipoverty legislation in our state.
The Women's Fund of Rhode Island helps transform the lives of individual women and girls who then help us transform the lives of all Rhode Islanders.
Imagine now, it's the year 2021 .....In Rhode Island the challenges of poverty, discrimination, and violence have been addressed and our economy is flourishing. Education and leadership opportunities are accessible and we have an abundant talent and resource pool across sectors from which we draw from. We choose the best person for the job based on skills, education, and experience and we embrace both women and men at work and women and men at home because active and present Dads make a positive difference for children.
Imagine.......How did we get there? —Gender equality. Here's the incredible thing. Not only can we imagine this but together we can decide to do this and can make RI the gender equality state. Each of us can take the opportunity and the responsibility to make this happen.
How?
We need you to paddle up and support what we can imagine and what we do at the Women's Fund to make that happen. Help us transform individuals and Rhode Island. Invest in women and girls and change everything!
