A portrait of the artist as a grumpy old dinosaur: Not alone, not unloved, just unbearable.
About Me:

English, ageing and angry.
Hometown:
Gravesend
Country:
United Kingdom
Occupation:
Preoccupied with being unoccupied, so no occupation at present.
Schools:
University of Sheffield; University of York.
Interests:
Bird watching (astigmatically); Cooking (imprecisely); Grumbling a lot; Photography; Politics (disenchantedly); Reading (abstractedly); Walking (insufficiently); Watching films on DVDs; Wife (see 'grumbling' above); Writing (unsuccessfully).
Movies:
We call 'movies' films and 'shows' programmes in England. I don't have a television set, principally because I object to paying for a licence to watch brain rotting trash, but I do enjoy watching films and amongst my favourites are: 8 Mile; Amelie; Blade II; Breathless (A bout de souffle); The Commitments; The Cruel Sea; Das Boot; Doctor Strangelove; The Draughtsman's Contract; Fitzcarraldo; Good Fellas; Great Expectations; If,Secretary; The Servant; Withnail and I and far too many other films to list, including a number of excellent Indian (non Bollywood) and Japanese films.
Music:
I have very catholic musical tastes but the following should give a general impression: Virginia Astley; Baroque; Bluegrass; Cajun; Delta Blues; The Doors; Doo-Wop; Dub; The Groundhogs; Jazz; Jimi Hendrix; The Prodigy; Renaissance; Rockabilly; The Rolling Stones; Eric Satie; Ska; Ralph Vaughan-Williams; The Velvet Underground; Villa-Lobos.
Books:
This is not an exhaustive selection: American Notes; Brideshead Revisited; Brighton Rock; A Dance to The Music of Time; Down and Out in Paris and London; Food in England; Great Expectations; The Right of The Line; The Road to Oxiana; Sailing; Sketches by Boz; The Sword of Honour trilogy; A Time of Gifts; With The Marsh Arabs.

William, you're the most, man!!!! Not only do you give me TERRIFIC and AWESOME comments on my music, but you nail them so specific reg. what I'm trying to achieve (and have always tried to achieve from the word 'GO'!) that it seems like you know me better than I do myself!! I'm totally lost for words when I read your breathtaking (!!) comments about me! If there's anything I can do for you in return, jus holler! Any music of mine that you want I will GLADLY burn onto CD's for you, no sweat at all! If I had some spare copies of my old records/CD's (new ones also, of course) I would send them to you, but I'm afraid that I only have one copy of each record I've ever made (some 70+ releases on a myriad of labels) and they're tucked away safe and sound somewhere around here. If you & the Mrs. ever plan to visit Sweden, gimme a call! All The Very Best & Have A Real Nice Weekend!! Your friend, Hank C...

Hi, you`re quite right, The Draughtsman`s Contract does indeed have a great deal of artistic merit. It was Fitzcarraldo, that i meant to say was pretentious tosh.

neosoontoretro: You'll have to explain yourself as I haven't a clue what you are talking about. I'll hazard that, whatever it is, you disagree with me on some point or another, probably trivial, and are anxious to show the world how clever you are, and I'm sure that you aren't quite as clever as you seem to think. I understand how markets work and, as I am not a marketeer, they don't work for me they work against me, which is why I understand all about economic equality.

I'd guess that you're still at school, by which I don't mean university, and have just covered some topic vaguely related to something I've written somewhere, perhaps some time ago. Your head is probably stuffed full of meaningless economic bullshit that has no practical application in the adult word outside 'academia', as you will learn when you have to earn a living.

If you can't understand how the market is constructed in your favor then how can you understand economic inequality?

I agree with your veiws on tv programmes. but after reading that you liked The Draughtsman`s Contract, i can see you`re not against pretentious tosh. No offence.
