A coal miner's son, originally from Batley in Yorkshire, David went to school at Batley Boys High School followed by part time business studies at Dewsbury Tech. This was followed by Leeds Metropolitan University (Leeds Poly) and finally Derby University where David qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant
