The Official YouTube Page of White WidowHer name is WHITE WIDOW, and her home base is webbed from New York to Austin.
"This is girl-fronted rock with balls, yet has an enticing sweetness to it that the Widow uses to lure you into her web."
-Impact Press
The Berklee College of Music graduate has been touring for years now, from the legendary rock club CBGB all the way to Italy (on the Arezzo Wave Festival Tour). White Widow recorded and self-produced her last two albums, BLACK HEART and IT'S MY TRAGEDY, and is currently in the studio on her fourth album, A PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER, complete with an accompanying short film (produced by NYC-creative, Electric Wonder). Music production has become an integral and effective piece to White Widow's creative process, allowing her to showcase artistic layers beyond songwriting and performance.
"Her trio plays angst-drenched indie rock that ranges from bombastic to intimate, occasionally within the same song. If you come away thinking [White Widow] spent some time studying P.J. Harvey, you'd likely be right, but her music works and she deserves more attention."
-Wall Street Journal on Black Heart
During the IT'S MY TRAGEDY Tour, Dewar's featured and sponsored White Widow in their Collective Series, appearing in the Village Voice. She opened for Grammy nominee Dave Rave and the Semi Precious Weapons, and has also played alongside guitarist Steve Mazur of Our Lady Peace, and Grammy nominee Grayson Hugh.
At SXSW 2010, White Widow opened for Sandra Bernhard, and has continued as music director and on-stage backup for Bernhard on tour through San Francisco, London, Miami, and New York in 2010-2011, sharing the stage with such great performers as Liza Minnelli, Justin Bond and Rufus Wainwright.
"White Widow....growling, angsty vocals and gritty lovelorn lyrics!"
-Time Out New York
A nod to Stevie Nicks' 'Gold Dust Woman', the name White Widow draws from Nicks' reference to the poisonous black widow spider. But White Widow comes with a less sinister touch. "White Widow presents contrast: it's both heavy-hearted and light-hearted" she says. "I draw influences from performers like Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham, PJ Harvey, Sandra Bernhard, and Courtney Love. These artists are raw and don't hold anything back, something I believe every artist strives for."
White Widow released her first album, NO WOOD TO KNOCK ON in 2005, recorded in Brooklyn, NY, and teamed up with producer Ian McNally (Amanda Marshall) and L. Stu Young (Prince).
"Some tracks are gritted-teeth rants, others are simply mysterious and seductive, but you definitely get the feeling that this woman is a bit off balance. You're never quite safe, even when she's purring invitingly."
-Indie-Music.com on No Wood To Knock On
Many of White Widow's recordings have been featured in films and on television, including the MTI horror film Ice Queen, The Young & the Restless, All My Children, Nash Bridges, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and MTV's Teen Mom, to name a few.
"[White Widow's vocals are] smooth, emotional and powerful and perfectly suited to her passionate songwriting, [combined with] affectionate singing and emotionally charged lyrics. This gal can really sing!"
-Boston Metronome Magazine
