The UMP isn't over powered, it's really average. The Type 95 was OP but not really anymore, and all of the shotguns except for the striker suck.

They are different games, yes, but not in the way you described. BF3 is a more focused on team play and strategy, whereas MW3 is more like an arcade game focus...
