If the founding fathers could see what has happened to our 'militia' I think they would turn in their graves. Thomas Jefferson warned about the creation of a national standing army like Great Britain's. The militia was originally a group of men who banded together to protect their homeland from a foreign invader, and the government itself. They were locals defending their own land for the most part. Now it has become a profession. Soldiers are ordered overseas to 'spread democracy' and 'remove evil dictators'. I have nothing against the soldiers themselves, but we must not allow a federal army to replace our right to self defense.

Our second amendment right is there not just so that we can hunt, not just to protect from criminals or burglars, but to protect ourselves and our homes from our own government and other armies. The second amendment protects the people, giving them the ability to rise up and revolt, which is our duty when government becomes corrupt as outlined in the Declaration of Independence. Why then would you want to disarm the citizens of this country from the very thing that has the opportunity to oppress them? Why then would you want our gun rights to be taken away by the government - the very same group this amendment is supposed to protect us from? It is much harder to oppress an armed society than an unarmed society. In the words of Adolph Hitler

'History Teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms prepared their own downfall.'

I'm not advocating any armed rebellion right now. I know that there are going to be a few people who would attack my position if I didn't say that. However, our government is becoming more and more corrupt it seems that at least once a week we learn about a new scandal. So if you honestly don't want a gun, or have a problem with guns, then don't get one or move to England. Otherwise, as far as I am concerned, as long as you have not been declared mentally unstable or are a convicted felon, go buy firearms legally as you see fit.
