Yes I think he was in the habit speeding up his old songs far too much. I'm very fond of Zappa's early live Mothers, and his late Synclavier music... but the last 6 years of his live concerts, he was clearly "phoning it in..." with the fast tempos, I guess he either he thought he'd hide his bored...
