A couple thoughts..... if all the weeds were suddenly killed in this pond, there should have been a fish die-off soon after because decomposing vegetation usually knocks down the oxygen levels in the water. It's very odd the landowner did not experience a massive fish die-off.

Well designed man-made ponds can look much nicer than this.

It's funny how there are a zillion people promoting ebooks that all proclaim their way of building a pond is the "correct" way. I think we will just stick to doing it the "wrong" way since it's a lot prettier.

Financing is one aspect of investing in waterfront property. There is a litany of additional issues to consider when considering lakefront/waterfront real estate. One element beyond flooding that should affect financing is the potential for erosion. The issues go on and on from there.

This is a classic case for the need to do your research before purchasing waterfront property. I am always amazed at how little forethought people put into real estate investments.

A site with such thick organic deposits is going to require a lot more design forethought than simply using plantings. Excessive plants are likely the cause of all the muck we see being dredged from this pond. So many are led to believe ponds are simple when they are anything but simple.

Simply switching to a pelletized organic or fish fertilizer is the easiest first step to keep runoff water clean. We requiire it around every pond, lake or stream we build.

Eric, well said. Groundwater is also the easist to develop and most secure water supply for aquatic land features. The lower investment cost of groundwater often outstrips the cost of aquatic habitat when compared to existing watered lands.
