I think the giant woman introduced as the third turn is intended to represent Teresa Mary "Tessie" O'Shea (13 March 1913 – 21 April 1995) who billed herself as "Two Ton Tessie From Tennessee". M. Chomet would certainly have known of her, but probably never saw her perform on stage.
