The Western Reserve Railroad Association (WRRA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, we are restoring the Painesville Depot located on 475 Railroad St. in Painesville Ohio.

Our Mission;
Teach all the importace of rail in our comunity and the world, to bring passenger rail back to our comunity, and to rstore the old painesville depot to it's past glory.
WRRA is a 501(c)3 non-profit

-----HISTORY-----

February 18, 1848 -The Cleveland, Painesville and Ashtabula Railroad was incorporated to build northeast from Cleveland, OH to join the Franklin Canal Company's railroad at the PA state line, and

November 20, 1852 - The full line from Erie to Cleveland opened.

June 20, 1854 - The Cleveland, Painesville and Ashtabula bought the Franklin Canal Company

October 1867 - The Cleveland, Painesville and Ashtabula Railroad leased the Cleveland and Toledo Railroad.

March 31, 1868 -The CP&A changed its name to the Lake Shore Railway.

February 11, 1869 - The Lake Shore absorbed the Cleveland and Toledo RR.

April 6, 1869 - The Michigan Southern and Northern Indiana Railroad and Lake Shore merged to form the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway which

June 22, 1869 -The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway absorbed the Buffalo and Erie Railroad giving one company the whole route from Buffalo to Chicago. The main route passed through Dunkirk, NY, Erie, PA, Ashtabula, OH, Cleveland, OH, Painesville OH, Toledo, OH, Waterloo, IN and South Bend, IN.

1877 - Cornelius Vanderbilt and his New York Central and Hudson River Railroad gained a majority of stock of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway. The line provided an extension of the New York Central main line from Buffalo west to Chicago.

July 1892 - Ground breaking of the new Lake Shore depot in Painesville OH.

February 1, 1893 - The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Station Opens, this was a very proud building in its day. The entire cost was $18,075.00. The style of the building is Richardsonian Romanesque. The Architect was Shepley, Rutan and Collidge of Boston, Massachusetts.

1893 - inspector J. W. Leighton said, "It's the finest station of this line east of Cleveland and it is surpassed by none in convenient, arrange mentor elegance of finish."

December 22, 1914 - the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad merged with the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway to form a new New York Central Railroad.

During World War I, Lake County service men said "Goodbye" from this station. The station became a canteen for the traveling soldiers during World War II.

February 1, 1968 - The merger of, the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central Railroad created; The Penn Central Transportation Company, commonly abbreviated, Penn Central, it was an American railroad company that operated from 1968 until 1976

May 1971 - Passenger service to Painesville Depot was stopped.

1976 - Penn Central, in became part of Conrail. Amtrak's New York City-Chicago Lake Shore Limited runs along the full route from Buffalo west.

1993 - The building was purchased by Edward Dunlap.

1997 - The Western Reserve Railroad Association was formed to help save this historic landmark.

August 22, 1998 - Conrail was split between CSX and Norfolk Southern. The Chicago Line east of Cleveland, Ohio went to CSX, and was split into several subdivisions- The Erie West Subdivision from Erie to east of Cleveland, Ohio, and the Cleveland Terminal Subdivision into downtown Cleveland. The line were transferred to two newly-formed limited liability companie, to be subsidiaries of Conrail but leased to CSX, New York Central Lines (NYC). The NYC, reporting mark, which had passed to Conrail, were also transferred to CSX.

June 1, 1999 - Operations under CSX began. As the names indicated, CSX acquired the former New York Central Railroad main line from New York City and Boston, Massachusetts to Cleveland, Ohio, and the former Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway (NYC Big Four) line to Indianapolis, Indiana

2000 - The Lubrizol Corporation donated a caboose to the WRRA.

2005 - HO layout is donated

2006 - The caboose was destroyed in a fire.

2010 - HO layout is ran for the first time

2011 - Facebook and youtube pages are created. lol
