About Hidden Communities

Microbial communities, although they contain the largest number of species and make the largest biomass of the world, are often unobserved. This channel provides brief videomicrographs of these tiny critters.

I study the ecology of microbial communities in extreme environments such as salt marshes, salt ponds, alkaline ponds, hot springs, and desert playas. I have a permit to collect and study from the Department of the Interior. I give Field Lectures with a Microscope at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge [see their quarterly activities list in "Tideline"].
