۞ LOVE YOURSELF
You richly deserve all the good things you do for yourself --- surrounding yourself with friends or solitude, water or mountains, fun or flowers. Being good to yourself is the key to rediscovering your inner goodness. As you treat yourself kindly, you will remember that you are a person worthy of kindness. As you affirm your accomplishments and abilities, you will remember that you deserve affirmation. As you confer love upon yourself, you will believe that you are entitled to all the love that naturally graces your life. ۞ DETACHMENT
We cannot help people unless they really need help, want help, and ask for help. Even then, we can only help them to help themselves. When we see others struggling, we may feel so concerned that we want to take charge, "for their own good." True caring means being there for the person but letting go of the problem. Releasing the need to control frees us to love with detachment and to have faith that God can do what we cannot.
۞ LOSS
The struggle for acceptance is a struggle that begins with loss. You may have lost someone so important that your life threatens to collapse into emptiness. You may have lost faith in an all-good, all-powerful God. You may have lost a relationship with someone who made you feel safe and good about yourself. You may have lost freedom or control or a dream, shelter or safety or survival. Search among the ashes of despair for the embers of courage. God will rekindle your spirit. All is not lost!
۞ FEELINGS
Acceptance is not about denying, numbing, or hiding. It is about struggling, surrendering, and finally transforming through the power of grace. Life's burdens come laden with emotion: anger, guilt, and grief. When we try to bury feelings that frighten us with their wildness, they may erupt with destructive force or we may slowly deaden ourselves to any feeling. Listen to your feelings; tell them to a friend; give them voice. They are messengers from the heart, bearing sage counsel for coping and for mending your broken spirit.
۞ HAPPINESS
Sometimes we let happiness depend on circumstances over which we have no control. "If only this would happen, then I could be perfectly happy." We can't always get what we want, but often we get what we need. We can't always change the reality that falls short of the hope, but we can find the strength to meet it courageously. We can't always have everything that we think necessary for enjoyment, but we can learn to enjoy what we do have. Don't postpone contentment. Enjoy now!
۞ TRUST
In the end it all comes down to trust. Trust in the goodness of Life, in the goodness of God, in the goodness of you. Trust in the resilience of the human spirit and in healing guided by the heart of Divine Compassion. Trust in a plan behind the seemingly random circumstances of your life. Trust that life goes on forever and that you will be reunited with those you have love and lost in a time that never ends, in a place where spirits join in jubilation.
