About The Volvo Ocean Race Academy
Volvo Ocean Race proudly supports its new youth sailing initiative, the Volvo Ocean Race Academy.
Over 14,000 children will have the opportunity to "Try Sailing" during the 2011-12 Race. They will be shown some basic sailing skills and learn about the Volvo Ocean Race. An educational programme will enable host port schools to become involved in the Race and sailing as a sport.
For experienced young sailors there will be an Academy Team Racing Series.The Racing Series will be comprised of the world's largest youth dingy fleet, the Optimist Class. Many Olympians and Volvo Ocean Race sailors began their careers in the Class - Magnus Olsson, Stu Bannatyne and Iker Martinez to name but a few.
Come and Try Sailing, one day you may find yourself sailing around the world in the Volvo Ocean Race!
